This book explores 320 parish churches of Shropshire, half of them medieval. Early chapters guide the reader through changing architectural styles, from Anglo-Saxon origins to the 21st century. Then the author looks more closely at the treasures of the churches, including towers and spires, porches, roofs, sculpture, fonts, memorials and monuments, stained glass, rood-screens, pulpits, pews and chancel furnishings.
The county is then divided into geographical areas, with descriptions of all the individual churches in each area. The author indicates those churches which he considers to be the most rewarding to visit, including a significant number of Victorian churches which are often undervalued.
The book is richly illustrated with over 530 photographs.
